San Antonio Whovians Assemble!

Last weekend was big for us geeks,ย  with the release of World War Z and the Texas Comicon 2013 in San Antonio and I am pleased to announce the Whovians were out in full force.

Living in San Antonio and being a Whovian can be challenging, my husband and I seem to have no one to talk to about our passion and have to reach out to our fellow Whovians spread amongst the stars and across the internet to connect.

Well last Saturday made us feel at home in our own city, seeing so many Who fans in once place was a very welcome change to our everyday struggle to find someone to share our stories and love.

We were finally able to talk to people about Dr Who (I had a fun conversation about Disney and Dr Who with one the merchants who was wearing a plushie Tenth and a yoda Disney pin) and there were even a few Doctors among the crowd.

So okay guys, I now you are out there and would love to be able to share all my Whovian geekery with you, you have been seen so please come out and share San Antonio ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope to be seeing all of you around!

Now on a side note, yes, I love Who, but lets be honest, I am a full fledged geek and do not love just one thing geek. So here are all the other totally awesome costumes seen at the comiccon that I love. I will totally be dressing up for the next Comiccon in October, can’t wait!

Staycation- JW Marriot

As part of hubby’s bday plans, I decided a staycation was in order and we are really fortunate to have an awesome 4 star resort practically in our backyard( it really kinda is in my mother in law’s front yard. ) The JWMarriot San Antonio resort and spa is less than 10 miles from our home and it is a great way to stay close to home but still feel like you are on vacation.

The hotel has over 1000 rooms, its own lazy river and water slides, 4 restaurants, a spa and a golf course. Along with that there are also a ton of activities for the whole family, like games on the yard, nightly movies at the pool and free Smores from 6-8pm.

I had taken my prince here for his birthday before we got married and thought it might be fun to do again.

This place is huge, there was a convention going on so we had a huge walk to the lobby (but found out later there is a shuttle to your car if requested) but we got to see some awesome sitting areas and the blown glass art fixture down the main hall.

Once we made it to the lobby and checked in, something funny happened, our room was not our room, someone was already staying there, so they gave us a room with an awesome balcony overlooking the pool, late check out and birthday brownies for hubby (thanks Lisa!)

Once we finally settled in, we checked out our awesome view and then got ready to hit the pool!

So that was our night out, was a great little vacation without leaving town and it is nice to be able to get home in 10 mins ๐Ÿ™‚

Magnolia Pancake Haus, Movies and San Antonio Botancial Garden

Hi guys, once we finally got back into the swing of things we spent a little time on our first full weekend back with hubby’s mom and we went out to try the Magnolia Pancake Haus instead of our normal venue, Ihop ๐Ÿ™‚

Magnolia Pancake HausMagnolia haus

Kris ordered the southwest eggs benedict, had pulled pork instead of the Canadian bacon and had bbq sauce on top of the Hollandaise sauce, it was delicious, truly. The pork was a great compliment and the mixed sauces made this dish, yum!! eggsbenedict

On the side he ordered the banana foster pancakes, plain pancakes with aย  banana foster sauce. The sauce was a bit sweet for me, but hubby really enjoyed thembananafosterpancakes

My MIL ordered Magnolia Haus’ famous, Authentic Munchener Apfel Pfannekuchen and a side of bacon

It is a giant puffed apple pancake served with European style whipped cream and powdered sugar, this was really good and super rich, one bit was enough for me.

applepan

I ordered the corn beef has with over easy eggs, was delicious, really enjoyed it. The corn beef was a perfect balance of potato and corn beef and the runny eggs just made it awesome.

cornbeefhash

The corn beef also came with a side of buttermilk pancakes, they were really nice, nothing over the moon special but a nice pancake all the same.plain pancakes

I would definitely go back to the Pancake Haus, even Guy has eaten here, my only complaint was the weird seat covers in their bathrooms, lol!

And just a word of advice, get there early, this place really starts booming after 11am, wow!

After breakfast we realized there was a theater next door, so we went to see the new Evil Dead but before that we posed with the fun movie props, even though we won’t be seeing The Croods in theaters.

Hammin’ it up with the Croodscroods

Eek! This weird sloth is making a move, lol! weirdsloth

So as many of you know Evil Dead is a remake evil_dead_2013_by_myrmorko-d5j4g87

It was a Sam Raimi film and well it was so bad it became funny and also became a cult classic. This one was not funny and not a Sam Raimi film although he and Bruce Campbell did help produce the film.

It was pretty decent, it had been so long since I had seen the original I couldn’t remember what was new and what was old. But as a stand alone I enjoyed it, it was very bloody and had a good cast ( Jane Levy from Suburgatory is the main girl.)

I also liked that they changed big parts of the story ( I will refrain from adding spoilers.) My BIG complaint is previews, I know most people enjoy previews and I used to be one of them, but nowadays they ruin movies and shows alike. They gave away so much of the movie that some of the big parts, we already knew.

This is not the first time either, they ruined Quarantine and even the last episode of Dexter season 6 (I still want to write Showtime and give them a piece of my mind, lol.)

So if you haven’t seen any trailers, remember this is not the original Evil Dead and enjoy a good horror movie, check it out, I am sure you will enjoy it.

After the movie we left Kris’ mom and went to the San Antonio Botanical garden since I had never gone and it was a pretty spring day.

Map for the Botanical Garden

SABG-Map09

The garden is pretty large took us a few hours to do and even on a day in early April got pretty hot in the afternoon, I would recommend doing the garden in very early spring or very early in the day.

That was our day at the Botanical garden, it was really pretty and had alot to look at. Definitely a nice place to take pictures for spring with your family. If you have a chance before it gets too warm check it out, they even do night-time movies in the garden through out the year.

So that was our first full weekend back home, pretty fun-filled. Hope you enjoyed checking it out.
