Rapunzel's is flowing with ideas

If one bad apple spoils the bunch, what about two?

New Poison Apple pieces for sale and Art by Kris Floyd

Halloween is almost upon us and the thoughts of fairytales and fantasies start to turn a bit dark and tumultuous this time of year, so what better to time to share some villainous art and home décor with you.

Carved by Dan Szczepanski's

Carved by Dan Szczepanski’s

It is pretty well known here on the blog that hubby and I are big fans of the Disney villains. The one thing about the villains is that their props are just as infamous as they are, for example; Maleficent’s spinning wheel, Captain Hook’s hook, or the Evil Queen Grimhilde’s apple. You can’t think about them without picturing the villain they belong to and what part they will play in the story. That very premise is the idea behind this post.

apple

Today’s star is the poison apple, with just one bite, Snow White will have eternal sleep and the Queen will reign supreme as the fairest in the land. The apple itself is just as transformative as the queen herself, an apple the symbol of health turned awry. That thought inspired our newest creations, my poisoned apple prop and Kris’ art piece “One Bad Apple”

“One Bad Apple”

As for the prop.

Flash back to last year, I decided to go with the dark fairytales for Halloween. In order to tell my Evil Queen story, I needed my own Poisoned apple. I created this beauty and this year you can also have your very own by checking out my ebay l(click apple for link) shop, contact me  here or visit  Rapunzel’s Crafts Facebook Store here.

Poison AppleApples starting at $6.99 plus $4.50 shipping(paypal only.)

Each piece is lovingly made by me and designs will vary.

If interested in custom apples please contact me.

I hope this helps get you in touch with your villainous side in time for Halloween.

Until next time, Boo to you 🙂

Detour in chicago

So weather postponed us in chicago tonight. So after a million calls, a few tears for a missed flight, and a very long day, we hopped the subway to try some authentic chicago pizza. Taking off again tomorrow to paris!!!

We can now claim we have A) been to Chicago B) rode the subway and C) had real Chicago pizza

We ordered a small pizza and couldn’t finish it! We ended up with one delicious piece left for breakfast before our flight!

Excitement

Oh my gosh! I am SO excited, I am Paris is 3 days. Did you hear me? Well I guess you didn’t seeing as I am writing, so let me rephrase that. Did you see that?! 3 days away!!! Also I am excited since it is now officially my favorite season…. FALL!!

image

So on our excursion this weekend to finish gathering our travel supplies for France; we felt the cool of Fall on the air and also found Halloween stuff! But what is even better than Halloween Stuff is Disney Halloween Stuff and we found some!

First stop, Target!!!

Target never seems to disappoint when it comes to Halloween. I always find the best stuff there. I mean, check these out! Awesome foam Medusa wigs, don’t we look chic?!

image

They also had some must have animated creatures that I would LOVE to add to my already extensive collection of Halloween goodies. An owl who hoots and his head rotates, a red eyed raven in a cage who caws and his eyes flash, plus this adorable bat candy dish who talks, flaps and also has flashing eyes.

image

image

image

There is also a new line of paper goods, including these plates and napkins which I bought for my Halloween theme. There are also these super cute goody bags that resemble monsters in cages.

image

image

There is no shortage of treats to adorn these lovely plates and gift bags either. They had royal sugar pumpkins wearing moustaches, pumpkin bars, pumpkin cheesecake cakes, candy corn Oreos, and a variety of gummies to make my hubby drool. The gummies range from cute to cleverly grotesque all in one end cap. You could choose anything from gummy pumpkins to ground zombie and gummy tongues. Oh how I LOVE Halloween!!

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

Now onto the Disney stuff, Target had monster plushies of Mike and Sulley from “Monsters University” (Mike even has his retainer on.) As well as Muppet plushies of Kermit and Fozie all dressed up to scare. And speaking of dressing up, they had a variety of ways to Disney-ify your pumpkin as well. The line up included princesses, Avengers, Star Wars and Mickey and Minnie kits. So whichever branch of Disney you chose, your pumpkin will be covered.

image

image

image

Now onto CVS!

CVS has a small aisle of Halloween; however there were still some note worthy Disney items to be found.
There were figurines of Mickey as pirate (my favorite), Pluto as a clown, and Minnie as a witch. Also there were mini snow globes and pumpkin picks to dress your pumpkin up like that silly old bear, Pooh.

image

image

While we are on the subject of Disney Halloween, the Disney blog had some amazing prints that will be shown in the month of October.

Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s “Bride” will be shown on October 19th at WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District as part of the current exhibit, titled Pop Fusion from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m

image

Also Haunted Memories (Eddie Allen) “Marsh” can be seen October 5 – October 27

image

All this Halloween stuff just makes me giddy and I am bouncing off the walls waiting for Paris already.

I just can’t wait for all these exciting things. Next time you see me, I will be back from Paris with an incredible Disneyland Paris trip report. I can’t wait!
So as Mickey would say in French, à bientôt réel! (see ya real soon!!!)

OMG! Riddick is 11!

image

Today our little boy turned 11 and we have been trying to make sure he is super happy and healthy so I decided to make him something special for his birthday…

              Pumpkin Dog Treats!

image

I mean who in our house doesn’t like      pumpkin?!

No one, even the pup loves it and it is good for him too.

Pumpkin is great for tummy troubles, skin and fur and even weight loss (high in fiber) if your furry friend needs that.

Recipe for pumpkin treats
·        1/3 tbs chia seeds+ 1 tbs water- let chia soak in water to become gel (used this to sub out egg since I was making a very small batch and chia is good for dogs too*)

·        pinch of salt

·        1tbs dry milk

·        1/4 cup pumpkin puree

·        1 cup whole wheat flour

·        Additional (if needed) water to make a workable dough

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix all ingredients except the water.  Dough will be crumbly.  Add just enough water so the dough becomes elastic and pliable.

Turn out on a floured surface and knead a few times.  Roll dough out to about 1/2-1inch thickness.  Using a cookie cutter (I used a cat head since I didn’t have a bone), the rim small glass or even a pastry cutter, cut into desired shapes.

Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Turn off the oven and let the biscuits sit in the oven until oven cools.

image

I let them sit until cooled and then placed them in a jar with a bow for Riddick’s birthday celebration this morning.

image

He seemed to really love them.

image

             Happy Birthday, Riddick!!!

*Chia seeds have some incredible effects on health, us and animals. Chia seeds contain large quantities of protein, five times the calcium of milk, boron (a mineral that helps with calcium absorption for bones), Omega 3 and 6, plus they can help regulate blood sugar levels and aid in maintaining a healthy weight. Not only can they do all that but they can also help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and blood pressure, and reduce risk of heart disease.

Also, there are no known allergies to chia seeds, and seeds can easily be stored for long periods of time without becoming rancid, making them a better choice even over the amazing flax seed. These seeds have no discernible smell and barely any flavor, so you can add them to your dog’s meals without altering the taste that they enjoy.

Staycation- JW Marriot

As part of hubby’s bday plans, I decided a staycation was in order and we are really fortunate to have an awesome 4 star resort practically in our backyard( it really kinda is in my mother in law’s front yard. ) The JWMarriot San Antonio resort and spa is less than 10 miles from our home and it is a great way to stay close to home but still feel like you are on vacation.

The hotel has over 1000 rooms, its own lazy river and water slides, 4 restaurants, a spa and a golf course. Along with that there are also a ton of activities for the whole family, like games on the yard, nightly movies at the pool and free Smores from 6-8pm.

I had taken my prince here for his birthday before we got married and thought it might be fun to do again.

This place is huge, there was a convention going on so we had a huge walk to the lobby (but found out later there is a shuttle to your car if requested) but we got to see some awesome sitting areas and the blown glass art fixture down the main hall.

ry=400

Once we made it to the lobby and checked in, something funny happened, our room was not our room, someone was already staying there, so they gave us a room with an awesome balcony overlooking the pool, late check out and birthday brownies for hubby (thanks Lisa!)

So that was our night out, was a great little vacation without leaving town and it is nice to be able to get home in 10 mins 🙂

Weekend of Celebration

Friday was hubby’s birthday and as you saw, we did Borderlands 2 for his work celebration, so I am sure you are all wondering what I did for home, or who?!

That is right, Who.

Home was all Dr Who themed, starring Doctors 9-11, since that is where we started.

Here is the decor starting with the front door

Of course a Tardis door, I even included a beacon in the window to mimic the light atop the Tardis, I was going to cover the remainder of the door with blue crepe paper but it was threatening rain, so I just taped it up. Didn’t want to clean soggy crepe paper off everything, lol!

DSC02345

Instead of Police public call Box, I did Happy 29th year BirthdayDSC02347

The police box notice also reads birthday themedDSC02346

Inside, I “graffiti-ed”  Bad Wolf on our chalk boardDSC02344

Also marked some Silence encountersDSC02343

I strung Tardis and star string lights down the stairs and the Impossible Astronaut is floating right at the beginning of the stepsDSC02337

Up close Tardis and star lightDSC02339

I also made Garland with tons of Doctor Who quotes and pictures

DSC02341

I also took the mask pictures from the bbc website and made them smaller to make an alien garland for other wallDSC02342

When you first get up the stairs you see the Happy Birthday sign with the seal of Rassilon, some star twirlers and balloons

I made a Tardis vase and filled it with Sunflowers (one of my van gogh references)DSC02307

Exploding Tardis on the tableDSC02310

Awesome space tablecloth with cool earth like plates that I found at TargetDSC02311

Begging Pterodactyl and sign that states do not feedDSC02312

I also took my foam head from halloween (he was the organ player for my haunted mansion) and gave him a new more doctor like get up. I made him a fez, 3d glasses and a bowtie, cause bowties are cool!

There are also some Tardis self destruct buttons (alright, they are jammie dodgers), some banana runts (since 9th liked bananas and since it was a party, we followed the 10th’s instructions to always bring one.)  The 10th’s sonic screwdriver made out of polymer clay.DSC02313

Would you like a jelly baby? We hear they were Tom Baker’s faves and the ganger 11th, seemed to like them too.DSC02314

I also made a journal of impossible things and the doctors fob watchDSC02315

Next to the table I made Amy Pond’s apple and another apple which hate things, like I hate apple, apple are rubbish on it.
 DSC02320

Glow jar with starsDSC02321

River song’s journal and some chapstick I used a sticker and some glitter to make into hallucinogenic lipstick. I wrote all of my husband and I’s adventures in the journal, to track our time together, like River did with the doctorDSC02322

I made bowties are cool garland and decorated the tvDSC02324

Even Riddick got in on the fun, looking dashing in the bowtie I made him 🙂 DSC02325

Hello Sweetie garland with pictures of River song in it (yes, I printed my S wrong, so it is backwards, was boring white on other side.)DSC02326

I also found this awesome Gallifreyan Translator and used it to create this “Happy 29th Birthday, sweetie” bannerDSC02327

Then there is the table of Tardis, I made a cansiter with working light, the vase, a gift bag and this awesome paper craftDSC02328Tardis Key I made atop Tardis Canister

DSC02331

Fridge also had some posters and things I have learned from Doctor WhoDSC02329 My weeping Angel, which I made from a Monster High Doll (tutorial will be posted soon) placed on a mirror and in front of one, so she won’t attack

Next the gift bag had plushies I made, an OodDSC02369

and an AdiposeDSC02371

There is also a cool shirt, but you will see it in the next post

An Easy Saturday Date Night

A few weeks ago hubby and I did something fun that I know alot of us haven’t done since we were kids…

Rollerskating!

It was a very impromptu date night and it turned out to be great.

Yep, that is right, we laced up some skates and went out there with all the kids and had a blast!

skateland

Our old school bulky skates!skates

We skated for over an hour and even played one of the rink games, didn’t win but had fun! I forgot how much of a workout it can be. We were so sore after and decided to treat ourselves to some well deserved frozen yogurt, I mean we did just burn a ton of calories, why not?!

So we headed to Orange Leaf.

Orange Leaf is a self serve frozen yogurt shop that has healthy and decadent ways to enjoy your yogurt. For Example, I got coconut, pistachio and oatmeal cookie (semi good for you) yogurt topped with fresh fruit, nuts and shredded coconut (It also had the coolest gummy frog but I ate him before taking the pic, oops.) While hubby got snicker-doodle and topped his with chocolate, cheesecake (thought it was cookie dough) and reeses. Orange leaf gives you the ability to pick your own style and they charge by the weight instead of cup, so you can get a lot or a little, ultimate freedom in dessert form.orangeleaf

It was a great date night and pretty cheap considering the cost of dinner and a movie, plus,  we got some fun exercise in without even thinking about it.

Been roller skating lately? What is your idea of a fun night out?

So these are my themes for the last 3 years, I wonder what this year will be? I will let you know on the 17th 🙂

Happy Friday!
