April Showers Bring May Flowers- Seeds from The Epcot Flower & Garden Festival

As the Flower & Garden Festival comes to its final two weeks, I decide it was time to bring  our little gift from Epcot to life.

flower

The Flower & Garden festival’s 20th Anniversary was this year and it started March 6th and its final day is May 19th. The Festival was filled with food, music, activities and of course FLOWERS!!

DSC02089

And that my friends is exactly what we are bringing to life today!

When we visited the OZ garden during our visit, we played a few carnival games and were given these as our prize!

OZ/Flower and Garden Festival seed packets

DSC02090

They are yellow marigolds to create our own Yellow Brick road (as it says on the package)

This is the back of the seed packet, has the directions and the infamous Minnie Mouse as a Topiary to go with the theme from the following year of Mickey as one.

DSC02091So I decided to plants these little seeds and found a little plastic container from Chickfila for their fruit, that worked perfect.

I planted them Monday night and it said it would take 5-8 days for them to sprout, I sat them in the window sill and 4 days later, we have these!

DSC02088

Our first little bit of Spring in our house!  They sure grew fast, unlike my Venus flytraps, who are almost 5 months old and barely the size of a fingernail!

So there you have it, we have brought another piece of Disney to life!

Hope you enjoyed this post, see you again soon!

Sneak Peek at a Friday Disney Event

Happy Friday guys, I decided since it is Friday, I would share a sneak peek of something happening on a Friday at  Disney in the not so distant future.

September 13, 2013 to be exact, it  happens to be a Friday the 13th and this means good news for us, the Disney Villain fans.

This Friday in September will bring the Reflections of Evil Trading Event.

This is how the Disney Blog tells the Story

“In a far away land there lived a wicked and vain Queen who wanted more power. While pouring over ancient spell books, she discovered an incantation that, when performed on the darkest of days – Friday the 13th – could bring together thirteen of the most evil Disney villains known only as “The 13.” To cast this spell, the Queen must use a powerful, supernatural object – a magic mirror – to transport “The 13” from across time to the present day. As luck would have it, Friday the 13th will take place in September this year! The Queen decided this would be the perfect day to cast the spell.

Let’s fast forward to September. As the newly assembled Villains are hashing out their nefarious plans, the Villains intentionally break the mirror and hide the thirteen shards. Now the mirror can never be used against them, as it is the only object that can send them home. Lucky for us, an imaginative purple dragon named Figment overheard their plotting and asks Mickey Mouse for help. Along with five of their trusted friends known as the “Lucky 7,” Mickey Mouse and Figment devise a plan to stop “The 13.” They must reassemble the broken shards to send the villains back to their rightful places in time.”

This will be a huge battle and not only does it have the big 13 villains, but they included Figment, super exciting. Of course, with Disney, a huge battle means huge merchandising 🙂

Here is a peek at some of the items they will be offering.

Disney Anniversary Trip – Day 7- Epcot, Pick A Pearl in Japan, Passport signing, Easter Egg Hunts and The Coral Reef Restaurant

Good morning everyone, today will finish off day 7 of our Disney anniversary trip and it is a great finish to the day for sure.  We will start off in Japan and check out the pick a pearl, then make our way across the World Showcase getting our passport stamped and hunting Easter eggs for the Vinylmation Egg east hunt , then end the day with a romantic dinner under the sea at the Coral Reef Restaurant.

Now off to Japan

We walked into Japan not knowing how big this pavilion is, it was very impressive how much stuff is going on here.

About Kidcot, Kidcot is Epcot’s area in each country where kids can learn more about the country and color a Duffy (Disney’s new teddy bear mascot)  dressed like the country and get their passports stamped and written in, be on the lookout for these. They are free and fun souvenirs for the kids or adults, we made our passport as seen in previous posts here.

We love Naruto, so to see this in the popular stuff from Japan was really neat.

We headed deeper into the store after I admired some sake cups and tea kettles and found the Pick a Pearl Area.

I had read about this place and it being a unique Disney gift, so I wanted to try it.

You buy your pearl first ($17.99) and they give you a number card, when our number was up, it was our turn to pick our pearl. Hubby and I picked an ugly kinda hairy one, since that was what I was told to do to better the chance of getting two pearls (not sure if it is true or not.)

Then the cast member, who was super friendly and very bubbly, taught us how to count down from three in Japanese, 1 (ichi). 2 (ni). 3 (san) and then see opened our shell.

On a side note, you can get them set for more into a setting there, but I found this awesome place on etsy and got a Cinderella coach pearl cage for $6 and my pearl looks gorgeous in it.

After the pick a pearl, the put it in a baggie for us and we went to check out the rest of Japan.

The store in American Adventure had the Easter egg hunt maps, we sat and put the ones we found on the map from when we walking to Future World that morning (but I will try to show you where they are as we travel the rest of the showcase.) We bought the map $4.95 and kept it for our scrapbook, you could also turn them in for a prize (a vinylmation key chain, but the line was so long we didn’t get ours.)

All the reviews of this pastry were dead on, it is delicious, it is a light pastry coated in icing and toasted coconut and filled with vanilla custard, it was so good, was almost sad to rush ourselves to finish it to ride the Maelstrom. You should definitely give it a go.

The Maelstrom is another one of those rides that is kinda confusing, it is dark and there are trolls and you almost go backwards but don’t. Was a ride, I figured Kris should experience once, but I was floored they have fast pass for it, never seemed too popular. In fact Kris was almost inside the ride by the time I got our schoolbread, so he got out and got back in. Then we were offered a fast pass and shoved our schoolbread (no, I don’t think it went up my nose this time and if it did there is no proof, lol!)  in our face to run inside.

Dinner was great and the atmosphere was wonderful, we even chatted with our table neighbors who had just got married that Saturday. I am never disappointed with the Coral Reef and was happy to share it with my prince.

After dinner it seemed like the rain was coming back so we decided to get some pictures because the rain started with our photopass+ and then head back to the hotel for the night.

Tomorrow is day 8, last day of the trip, off to Magic Kingdom for one last hurrah! See you here tomorrow to finish off the trip report. 🙂

Disney Anniversary Trip- Day 1- Epcot – Flower and Garden Festival, Via Napoli, and The Infamous Beverly

Hi everyone, as promised we are starting today at Epcot (I wish I was there right now.)

From our room we walked back to the bus stop and boarded the Disney Transportation that is free staying on property. The buses go from hotel to park and from park to hotel, so if you are eating at a hotel other than your own or wanting to go to another park from the one you are currently at, then you have to do some transferring (more on that tomorrow.)

In this instance, we were off to Epcot, so straight shot, bus to Theme Park.

Once we were dropped off at the bus stop, we were ready to go.

It was also the 20th Anniversary of the Flower and Garden festival, so upon entering the park, you see this awesome topiary complete with Goofy holding a 20th anniversary cake232323232%7Ffp73475)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(33 6534;nu0mrj 232323232%7Ffp543 6)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(2587234;nu0mrj

Ok, this is one ride that I think I will skip next time but seeing as this was hubby’s first time, we did it. It was a slow and I mean slow moving trip through the past to our future and I wish I had got pictures once inside. Because at the end of the ride they take use a picture of you which is taken during the ride, cut off your head and post it on little bodies to depict your future vacation. It was hilarious! My little head complete with mickey ears in a scuba suit under the water. Worth a laugh at least 🙂 And we can say, yep we’ve done that!

Now that we are here, we had decided Authentic Italian pizza was the goal. So off to Italy we ran, rushing our way through, so we could eat before we ate dinner, I know, I know!

So we rounded the countries so quickly that there are no pictures this first day, but trust me you will see plenty on our day 7 of park hopping.

Italy

I love Epcot, cause look, we are in Italy:)

I just loved the Chandelier inside the lobby of Via Napoli, have to keep this picture for a reference when we buy our house232323232%7Ffp54363)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;934;nu0mrj

Can you tell Hubby is excited!?232323232%7Ffp73492)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878; 34;nu0mrj

Guess I was a little too 🙂 232323232%7Ffp73496)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8;;;;34;nu0mrj

Menu232323232%7Ffp543 5)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8;;(234;nu0mrj

It had a really decent selection of everything ranging from fresh fruits to very large pizzas, since we had the dining plan we each got an appetizer, a pizza and a dessert, so we opted for different items to get to try more. Before I unveil our selections, I must show you this beautiful restaurant and its really awesome brick ovens.

View from our table232323232%7Ffp734 7)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8;;(634;nu0mrj

Now onto the food

Kris chose for his appetizer, Arancini – Fried saffron risotto balls filled with mozzarella and meat ragu232323232%7Ffp543;2)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898;234;nu0mrj

I chose, Calamari Fritti – Corn crusted rings served with spicy tomato sauce232323232%7Ffp54436)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8;;(734;nu0mrj

They were both good, but I would have rather eaten the Arancini.  It was delicious, something I think I will be craving from now on. The Calamari wasn’t too different (hubby really enjoyed it though) from anywhere else we would order it from but I did enjoy the lightness of the batter.

Onto the Pizza, Kris’ true reason for the venture.

He ordered,Wood Fired Authentic Pizza Napoletana – Pepperoni232323232%7Ffp54356)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898;334;nu0mrj

I ordered, Wood Fired Authentic Pizza Napoletana– Funghi232323232%7Ffp73498)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(88934;nu0mrj

Now for the test!232323232%7Ffp54359)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898;434;nu0mrj

Its Stringy, now how does it taste?232323232%7Ffp5438;)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(88;34;nu0mrj

Yum!! 232323232%7Ffp543 6)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898;534;nu0mrj

I have to say, that pizza was delicious! Truly wonderful and alas, I will have to go to Italy or Epcot to find it again. It was thin but not crispy and the cheese was so ooey and gooey. Makes me hungry just writing about it.

Here is what hubby had to say about the pizza, ”  I would just like to mention that the crust was amazing. I am totally a dough guy and it can really make or break a pizza. It was thin (not crunchy), soft, not overworked, foldable and it simply cradled all of the toppings perfectly. Simple ingredients done with care makes these pizzas a definite on the “to try” list. “

So onto Dessert (did I mention we have dinner reservations at 6?!)

Hubby got Coppa Di Brutti Ma Buoni – Ugly, but good. Amarena cherry and vanilla gelato sundae with ugly, but good cookies of carnevale

232323232%7Ffp734;4)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(89534;nu0mrj
232323232%7Ffp54388)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(89734;nu0mrj I ordered, Tiramisu – Mascarpone cream, espresso coffee, lady fingers and chocolate

232323232%7Ffp54435)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(89834;nu0mrj

I love Tiramisu and this was delicious but they were right about hubby’s dessert, it was really good, the cherry with the chocolate and the crunch from the cookie pieces, oh I think I am drooling!

I have to say, Via Napoli will now be on our must have meals when at Epcot from now on. I can’t believe I had never tried it before. If you get a chance to go, take it!

Beautiful Italian tower

232323232%7Ffp543 5)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8(7;;34;nu0mrj

On our way across the countries to ride some rides, find the Cool Club, and hopefully digest a bit, we stumbled on this box of art and hubby pointed out the Van Gogh (I love Van Gogh as most of you know) when we got home I almost deleted the shot due to the shadows. Then, I realized, look on the left, there is a hidden Mickey. Too cool!

232323232%7Ffp543(;)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(8 334;nu0mrj

Next stop, I think my husband’s favorite part of the trip, Club Cool

232323232%7Ffp54359)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898 834;nu0mrj

For those of you who have been reading for a while, you may have seen me mention Club Cool before. It is a really neat spot in Epcot where you can try 8 different sodas from around the world and its FREE!

Ok I think we will start with this one!

232323232%7Ffp734;2)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898 534;nu0mrj

China Smart Watermelon soda!232323232%7Ffp54352)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;234;nu0mrj

Alright, that was good, now what?!232323232%7Ffp54395)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898 634;nu0mrj

The Infamous Beverly from Italy, here goes!232323232%7Ffp5438 )nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;334;nu0mrj

Nope, we do not like this!232323232%7Ffp54434)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;898 734;nu0mrj

Really, you should try it!232323232%7Ffp734 2)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;634;nu0mrj

Ok my husband makes this stuff look tolerable, unfortunately my palate absolutely hated it!

OMG!!232323232%7Ffp734 7)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;434;nu0mrj

And it gets worse!232323232%7Ffp54382)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;878;534;nu0mrj

The bitter licorice flavor was way too strong for me and I would put it on my top 5 worst flavors out there, next to Harry Potter every flavor beans Rotten Egg flavor. Yuck!!!

We did like the rest. Here they are

  • Krest Ginger Ale from Mozambique
  • Fanta Kolita from Costa Rica
  • Beverly from Italy
  • Vegeta Beta from Japan
  • Kinley Lemon from Israel
  • Lift Apple from Mexico
  • Smart Watermelon from China
  • Mezzo Mix from Germany

So our Favorites were Smart Watermelon, Kinley Lemon (I loved this it is like liquid Lemon heads, yum!) and the Mezzo Mix (orange and coke)

The Cool Club is super fun and free, we did this a few times on the trip and yes, stupidly tried the Beverly again too (it did not get any better.)

Next up we found some really awesome topiaries for the upcoming Monsters inc movie. So cute

Various monsters

Once I was finished taking pictures from every possible angle I was ready to explore Future World since we were running out of time before Ohana.

But first we saw Winnie The Pooh in UK as we were leaving to head to Future World

232323232%7Ffp543 ;)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8(7(234;nu0mrj

Once in Future World we assessed the times, since we didn’t have time for fast passes. Mission Space had a 10 minute wait, so we were off to become astronauts. And we chose the Orange side, with the spinning, yay!232323232%7Ffp543 8)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;6(8 634;nu0mrj

We even found a hidden Mickey while checking out the planets!232323232%7Ffp5435 )nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8(7(334;nu0mrj

After we successfully completed our simulation of a flight to Mars, we went to my favorite ride. Journey into Imagination with Figment.

Here is the sign232323232%7Ffp54433)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8(7(434;nu0mrj

It was our first time together riding it, so no pics yet, but I promise you will see plenty of Figment before this trip is over.

And on the way out of Epcot, we spotted Phineas and Ferb and none other than Agent P!232323232%7Ffp734;6)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;;8(7(534;nu0mrj

Man those topiaries rock!

Next Dinner at Ohana, mode of transportation Monorail!

Waiting for Monorail!!

Come back tomorrow and I will share everything about Dinner at Ohana, how to get around Disney and our first trip to Magic Kingdom 🙂

2013 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Food, my picks

With the trip rapidly approaching(four days) and the Flower and Garden festival in full swing, Disney Food Blog went live to show us some of the wonderful food offerings of the trip. I am so excited and now have been able to narrow my food choices.

Here are my top picks based on the reviews and pictures from The Disney Food Blog:

The Cottage

Potato, Chive and Cheddar Cheese Biscuit with Smoked Salmon Tartare and Sour Cream

Trio of Trifles — chocolate, berry, and ginger tea

BauernMarkt: Farmer’s market

Savory Bread Pudding with Spring Peas and Wild Mushroom Ragout

Florida Fresh

Shrimp and Stone Ground Grits with Andouille Sausage, Zellwood Corn, Tomatoes, and Cilantro

Pineapple Promenade

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Of course there are Dole Whips offered at this stand but seeing as we don’t drink, I think I will save that snack for Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom and get the full size 🙂

Jardin De Fiestas

I am not sure which looks the best here so I will show them all

Tacos de Carnitas — Pork tacos topped with Tamarindo Salsa served on a flour tortilla with chicharron

Crab tostada served with chipotle mayo and Valentina Salsa

Flan de Guayaba — Guava Custard

Lotus House

Spring Pancake with Grilled Chicken and Green Apple

Primavera Kitchen

Asparagi con Aragosta all’Ortolana (Green asparagus, lobster, garden cocktail sauce)

Panna Cotta al Limoncello (Limoncello flavored Panna Cotta, wild berries)

The Smokehouse: Barbecue and brews

Smoked Beef Brisket with Collard Greens and Jalapeño Corn Bread

Rocky Road Brownie Mousse

OMG! This looks DELICIOUS! I think this is the one I am looking forward to most!

Hanami

Frushi (Fresh strawberries, pineapple and cantaloupe rolled with coconut rice, atop a raspberry sauce sprinkled with toasted coconut and whipped cream)

Taste of Marrakesh

I am not sure which one of these looks best either, so again, you get all the pictures. All I know is I am getting hungry:)

Harissa and Lamb Confit Chicken Drumettes with Chermoula and Cucumber Salad

Spiced Lamb Kebab with Vegetable Couscous Salad

Baghrir (Moroccan pancake with honey, almonds and Argan Oil)

L’Orangerie

This one doesn’t really appeal to me but I will give you the option to decide if it would be somewhere you would stop.

I am intrigued yet disturbed by the pate, lol!!

Verrine charlotte au pèches (Caramelized peaches and rosemary and light vanilla cream)

This was the one I wanted to try but heard the review was so so and it doesn’t look as appealing as it sounded 😦

Tarte a la ratatouille et fromage de chevre — zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper, onion, and tomato tart with goat cheese

Terrine Campagnarde, baguette et compote de cerises — country style pate served with baguette and cherry compote

There are two more stands as well

Fruits by the Glass and The Intermission Cafe, I did not see many reviews so I don’t have much info on those two but the menu consists of wines and the fruits by the glass stand and pretty standard items at intermission with exception to the beet lollipop

Also new this year, The Flower and Garden event has its own passport (my page is cooler in our passport book but does not have room for stamps on food page, guess we will using both.) Good news is they are free, love free souvenirs 🙂

They are pretty neat and have spots for the plants you looked at as well and food and drink, after all this is the flower and garden festival, better give those plants some attention 🙂

Totally can’t wait, think I may use all our snack credits right here, lol!!
