Warehouse 13 recruitment kit

Happy Friday guys!! Continuing on my many birthday projects, today I will show you the project I made for my best friend.

As many of you know, I am a bit of a geek.

What?! *gasp* you don’t say!

Well yes and being a geek, I also have my collection of geek friends to share my many dorky and nerdy obsessions.

One of these obsessions is Warehouse 13.
I LOVE this show!

Heather and I love this show so much, that we have decided we what to start our own Artifact collection agency.

So to do this, I thought is only appropriate to supply Heather with her supplies to take on the task of Warehouse agent

I pondered long and hard with how to approach this task and finally narrowed it down to a recruitment kit from Mrs. Frederic herself

I searched long and hard to see if anyone else had created a recruitment letter for said Warehouse, but alas, I found none.

So I looked at Sci-Fi related letters to get some inspiration and came up with this (feel free to use it,) letter (it had her last name on it though.)

image

Once the letter was complete and printed, I signed it in ink with Mrs. Frederic’s signature (don’t tell Mrs. Frederic) and enclosed it in a warehouse purple handmade envelope and created a faux wax seal out of polymer clay and used a wax seal stamp to give it the finishing touch.

Note: I was out of sealing wax or I would have done it the old fashion way

I also created a laminated badge for her to prove she was with the Warehouse (even though they always say they are secret service, hmmm…)

image

Ok, so I’ve got an idea and a letter with a badge, now what?!

I had to think, what all does a warehouse agent need? Well, my favorite agent is Claudia and she has some pretty cool toys, so I focused on that idea and came up with….

Goo!

Yep, that is right, Goo.

I got some of the alien slime in purple from the Dollar Tree; it resembled the purple traditional neutralizer that all the warehouse agents lug around. Then, I created a fun label and viola, Warehouse issued Goo!

image

image

But, I decided to take it a step further, because I think Claudia has created some awesome toys and I also made the aerosol neutralizer (I used a can of purple silly string for this, which I also purchased at the Dollar Tree.)

image

image

So we have goo in two kinds but as you know goo is not used on its own, nope, we now need neutralizer bags and purple (have to be purple) rubber gloves (we assume they are imbued with the goo, hence the color) to handle these pesky artifacts.

These things, I went to eBay for, I bought some little static bags to resemble the metallic bags on the show and some purple household kitchen gloves since I could not find them anywhere in town. I know weird, huh? Among these items, I also purchased goggles rather than making them, thought that might be a bit hard, only glasses I’ve made a the red and blue paper 3d ones for the Doctor Who birthday and those were hard enough.

Now we have a recruitment letter and some items to neutralizer our dangerous antiques, next we need some more accessories and how about something to hold all of these great gifts.

I decided to get a paper mache briefcase from hobby lobby and sprayed it silver then lined the inside with foam, so it would resemble a gun case and stashed all the goodies in there. I also purchased some awesome stickers from red bubble to adorn the briefcase and then continued to fill the box with goodies.

image

Next on the list was a weapon, what kind of secret agent doesn’t have a weapon, right?

And since this is Warehouse 13, they use Tesla guns, which are fun and steam punk and resemble Marvin the Martian’s ray gun. I again went to my go to, the Dollar Tree, and found a neat looking blue water gun to make into my steam punk tesla gun. I used model paint and painted parts, black, silver and bronze; wrapped wire around the nozzle of the gun, and then I adhered some gears to give it more flair.

image

Hmmm, lets see, what else does the box need?

I know!

An artifact and the most important accessory for any Warehouse agent…

A Farnsworth!

Heather loves elephants and the show just so happened to have an artifact which is a jade elephant that trumpets and shoots electricity, so I scoured the internet to find a jade elephant. No luck. Then I was going to make one of out clay and I stumbled upon the perfect elephant, a keychain on neatoshop.com, in which he trumpeted and his eyes lit up blue (perfect for lightning.) All he needed was paint, no biggie, I painted him and he was great! I made him a paper craft crate (found on deviantart.com). I also made a description card for the artifact.
I really think he looks just like the one from the show only much smaller!

image

image

image

Now onto the big project, the Farnsworth, the Warehouse’s version of video chat

For the inside, I started with my cricut and that gold scrapbook paper I used on the Winnie the pooh bookmark and I used the same “etching” technique by flipping the blade upside down and engraving the shapes onto the paper, then cutting out the rounded rectangular shape of the Farnsworth.
This is the template I created in cricut to do the etching and cutting.

image

Once the shape was cut out, I distressed it with a little brown paint and embellished it with dials (also bought at Hobby lobby,) knobs (one made of clay and one an old paint tube top,) and round stickers to replicate the look. The final piece was the lens, which I purchased on eBay and a round mirror inside the lens to give the video look (I also added a little brown painted to give it the same grungy look the rest of the piece has.)

image

For the outside of the Farnsworth, I bought a paper mache book at Hobby Lobby for the case. I then painted it with black, brown and a bit of bronze to give it that old oxidized look.
Once dry, I added a Styrofoam block to the inside and glued the inner panel piece into the book, then secured it with straight pins to finish it.

Tada! Farnsworth with moving dials!

image

I also made one more small thing, just a fun piece of steam punk jewelry to give my new recruit for her birthday.

image

Now our box is complete.
We have a recruitment letter, badge, bags and gloves, goo and aerosol goo, goggles (safety first), a tesla gun, a dangerous artifact to practice our snagging and bagging, some awesome jewelry and a Farnsworth.
I put it all in the box and it was ready to meet our new agent on her birthday

image

image

That is all for this project, I know it was a lot for one blog, but I would love to know what you think.
Also feel free to use any of the labels or the letter; just give me credit if you are reblogging.
If you have any questions or comments. I would love to see them
Have a happy weekend

As promised, here is that silly old bear!

Hi guys, as promised here is the Winnie the Pooh post.

My dear friend Windy, is a HUGE Winnie the Pooh fan, so I wanted to do something different this year and try my hand at a big polymer clay Winnie for Windy.

image

He is about 4inches tall and has a Hunny pot filled with honey (actually it is gold glitter and clear nail polish, think it worked perfect.)

image

He is also wearing some of the honey himself, silly old bear. Once, he was sculpted and baked, I painted his eyes, nose and eyebrows and affixed him to a mirrored base to give him a more upscale statue look.

image

What do you guys think? I know I was pretty proud of him.

Now Windy is also not a gift bag keeper, she recycles them, so to make a bag Windy would like I took a brown craft bag and dripped yellow acrylic paint down the sides to mimic honey and attached a little pompom bee I made (thanks to hubby’s suggestion) to the handle

image

The little bee turned out super cute, I may have to try different animals now     He is three yellow pompoms glued together, two black pipe cleaners (one for the stripes and one for the wings) and two black straight pins for the eyes which also made his body more stable. And just for some more whimsy, I added some glitter nail polish to the wings.

image

I also made a really need two sided bookmark with the help of my cricut. I printed a cute picture of Winnie and Christopher Robin,

image

then on the other side I used gold scrapbook paper and my cricut (blade upside down) and “etched” this inspirational Christoper Robin quote, “You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Then cut the bookmark out. After I glued the two pieces together, I made a tassel out of cross stitch floss and it was all ready to be bagged and presented to the birthday girl.

image

I apologize for the picture of the quote, the back was so shiny it was hard to catch the beauty in a photo but I tried.   I think everything turned out great and Windy loved them, which was the goal.   I would love to know what you think, please send me any comments or questions. I know I didn’t quite do a tutorial on these, but if you need help or want to know how to make anything I posted, just let me know and I will be happy to help. Hope you enjoyed this post. More coming soon.

Cricut Disney/Pixar Themed Birthday Card

I hadn’t really had the time since the trip to play with my cricut, in fact it even needed an update when I finally had a chance to log in. So when Steph decided she wanted to celebrate her birthday, I found an excuse to get out the cricut and make her a Dory card (her alter ego due to how forgetful she is.)

So since Dory is always forgetting things I decided to put, “Whose Birthday is it?!” with my cricut markers, which I hadn’t tried till now, on the front with Dory and her smiley self. I also took pieces from the best of Pixar cartridge to create the sand, coral and seaweed.

Front

dory

Inside I put “That’s right it’s… YOURS!” & “Happy Birthday”, also done with the markers.

Inside

I thought is turned out pretty cute and Steph liked it, so seems like a great project to me 🙂

Hope you liked my quick cricut craft 🙂

Disney Here We Come- Paper Projects Done!!

It’s been a very busy weekend in the Floyd household, finishing off projects for the Disney trip in 12 days!!

Our notebook is finally done! It now consists of these Itinerary pages (8 of them) they have where we are going, our ADRs (Advanced Dining Reservations), reminders of parades, fireworks and meet n greets and places for notes about what we ate, who we saw and what we rode that day. Thought it would help me blog about it all when I get home as well as be an awesome scrapbook.

Itinerary Pages (Anniversary page and Hollywood Studios page)

itinerary pages

Since we are going to Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival, I created two separate food around the word pages. A Traditional “passport” of the foods from each country and then a special one for the festival. I listed each place or country and their offerings, so we could just circle what we tried. Also at the bottom of the traditional page I created a Cool club spot, so we could check off the sodas as we try them 🙂

Epcot Food “Passport”foodpages

Speaking of passport, I posted the cover sheet to our Flynn and Rapunzel Passport for Epcot, I thought I would share one of the pages with you. It has a spot for the Epcot passport stamp and a place for a cast member to write in their language. So fun!

Up Themed Valentine’s day

Hi guys,  we are almost to the  final post of the Up themed Valentine’s day picnic.

I wanted to show you how the whole thing came together, I think it turned out super cute.

I got a paper mache mail box at hobby lobby for $4.99 (was going to buy the cartridge on cricut to make one for the same price, but I had less work with this one)

It was small so instead of doing the hand print, I painted them on and did our names as well.

meil

mailboxup

Then I cut what seemed to be a million little hearts with my cricut and wrote various this I love about my hubby on them. And I hide the UP movie inside all the hearts.  Look at that stuffed mailbox!

Here is hubby opening the mailbox, apparently he got lots of mail 🙂

In my last post I showed you how to make the “Ellie Badge” and this is how I presented the one I made to my husband.

I made some little love badges on paint and colored them and added them to a strip of construction paper, to look like Russel’s sash.

Then I made a letter on Photoshop explaining the gift, turned out really pretty.

boxup The Card: I made the envelope with card stock and littered it with my favorite foam adhesive hearts (probably used about 200 of them this Valentine’s day)
envelope

The card was all designed and cut on the cricut, I made the up house with various shaped and glued it all together. I used the same technique for these balloons as I did on the adventure book (glue the strings to each individual heart and then glue to card.) I drew the windows and door with black sharpie.upcard

The inside was also made with the cricut, except the bow, I used a small hole punch and some scissors. Glued the string in spots to get the loops. I was really happy with it 🙂 insideup

I had to get grape soda for the picnic, so I got this NuGrape from World Market and created my own grape soda labels on Photoshop.
grapesodabottle

It was too cold for a picnic outdoors, so I turned the living room into our picnic local. Hung some lanterns from the ceiling fan to mimic balloons.

Sat out our new colorful Valentine’s plates from target in a picnic basket with a plaid napkinIMG_5469

Got a paper Mache house from hobby lobby for $6 and painted it to best look like the house, then I made fruit skewers to look like the balloons 🙂 IMG_5471

To go with the picnic themed I made mini heart shape sandwiches, Ruben’s and Cuban’s with balloon and badge toothpicks, I made.IMG_5478

Here is one of the table top pics.IMG_5472For Dessert, I decided I would make Smore Cupcakes. They turned out beautiful and I finished them off with the remainder of the toothpicks

IMG_5479

Pretty hefty cupcake, you can see the graham cracker crust in this pic.IMG_5480

And last but not least, my prince finally got his adventure book!

IMG_5487 IMG_5488 IMG_5489 A very successful Valentine’s day picnic and mostly home-made. I hope you enjoyed this post, I was very happy to share it 🙂

Surprise Adventure Book for hubby

Our Adventure Book Tutorial

29842_10150163240945635_118194755634_12036915_4351097_n

So here was my goal! To create our very own Up Adventure book!

My hubby and I are heading to Disney World in 24 days, for our One year Anniversary (we got engaged at Disneyland in front of Flynn and Rapunzel) and I thought what a great Valentine’s present to make us a book we can use on our trip to Disney. Up was such a touching movie and I just loved the idea of making our own book. I thought it would be perfect for this adventure.

My supplies

– a cereal box

– some faux leather scrapbook paper, I purchased two sheets of brown and two sheets that kinda look like a basket ball for the ends where the laces are strung through

– two pieces of printed scrapbook paper to line the inside

– some cardstock for the pages and letters

– a cricut, diecut letters or stickers

– a globe – I printed out an antique globe and cut it out to tape it on like the one in the movie

– some modge podge

– a paper cutter (especially for the cereal box)

– scissors

– a hole punch

– some string or leather

-a paper scorer (used the one that came with my cricut essentials pack)

Other additions you can  do –  stickers, photos, markers, etc. We are going to use this for our trip, so I going to leave the inside blank except one “you and me” page to start it

Here is how I made it

I wanted my book to have a fold flap for where the binding will go and the lacing will go through, so I measure my cereal box I wanted to part where the brown would be to be 7 inch by 10.5 so I had space for my paper to fold over to create the covering.

Then I cut the box with my cutter to get two pieces (the front and back of box, saving the bottom flap since it did not narrow in)

I took my brown “leather” flipped it over and traced the box onto the material, so I could score it to make it easier to fold over the cereal box.

Then I scored it and folded all three sides.

After I spread on my modge podge onto one side of box and laid my brown “leather” on box and smoothed it out, then laid something (happened to be photo paper) heavy on top so it would dry evenly and adhere to the box.

IMG_5467 IMG_5466

I used my cricut cutting room for the letters and the oval and square around them. cut them on the colors I wanted them on and set them aside.

I then punched my two holes in the cover (two on each side)

Then I cut this pretty purple paper (I saw on one of the many pictures of the adventure book that the lining was purplish, so that is what I used but use whatever you like) and punched the holes on it. Then I covered the exposed inside of each page to line the cover.

purplelining

Next I worked with the basketball like material that will cover the folded flap on front of book. I folded and scored each line, then hole punched and glued onto covers. I tried hole punching after gluing first cover and was really hard to get through, so it is better to do ahead of time.

Scoringscoring

Folded and hole punchedfolding up the edges

Some of the holes still showed a small amount of cardboard through so I took a one inch punch and cut four circles (one for each hole) and the regular punch to punch out hole in center. I then glued onto original spot to cover cardboard.

After one inch punches were placed

circles

I then took my cardstock which had been cut to size and hole punch and laced my leather through starting with the front cover and wrapping around to end at front cover again to tie bow.

lacinglacing

This is book after lacing has been strung and tied, looking pretty awesome for my first bound book 🙂 cover

Next I got out the shapes I had set aside from the Cricut and glued them on the front coverbordercover

Then the letters and globe (just need a piece of masking tape to make it more authentic, which I did put on but I guess the picture is no where to be found), I also chose to use “our” instead of “my” for the title, since I made this specifically for Us, even though “my” was on the movie bookfront cover

I added Dug to the inside front cover just for fun. I printed him out on cardstock and cut him out and glued him in place.

Dug

I then took some of our pictures that were as close to the poses from the movie and printed them in sepia tone. I created our own image and up balloon (including tape) on photoshop and added caption to make it look like book page and then ripped it to mimic the Paradise falls page they tore out. Ours is Disney World though, since that is the goal. I made “you and me” die cut image with cricut.

Our First page

youandme

The pictures from the movie

upinside

Our next page, I did “Stuff we’ve Done” since this will be our scrapbook of our Adventures when we come home

stuff

Original movie page

upstuff

Then to counterpart Dug, I added a…. SQUIRREL! On the inside of the back cover

squirrel

For the back of the book I wanted The Up house with Balloons, so I printed three up houses on card stock cut various pieces and layers them to give the house a more 3d effect.

uphouse

I cut the Balloons as Mickey Balloons since our destination is Disney world. I used a Mickey head punch and then glued one strand of string to each balloon. The adhered them to book to create the balloon effect.

balloonhouse

Once they were all on, I added the banner I created on photoshop, that says, “Adventure is out there!”

back

There it is front to back, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! I had fun making it!

Free cuts for Cricut January 10-16th

Good Afternoon everyone! Today I thought I would tell you about something pretty cool that makes having a cricut super fun, best part about it is… it’s FREE!!

Yep that is right, completely free. The cricut cutting room gives you a new cartridge to try out each week. You guys remember my very first post with the 3d trees, they were that weeks free cartridge. Pretty neat, huh?! Here was the 10th-16th cartridge.

freecutIt shows you on this picture little treat boxes that can be made with this set, but you can also make cards, garlands and anything else you imagination can come up with. It has Valentine’s, St. Patty’s and Easter on this set as well and since Valentine’s is next in line, I decided to do something with that.  So I am making a garland, I really just wanted to play with the new cartridges and try out the cute little sayings. It is a simple garland but you can always add embellishments, textures and anything else you want.

Here are some of the images I cut, I thought they turned out pretty neat. I especially love the “toad-ally yours”

freecricut

I also picked up some mini clothes pins ($2 at hobby lobby) and some foam heart stickers (500 for $2.99 plus 30% off) to hang them from the twine I was going to use. I adhered the foam stickers to the clothes pins for some cute Valentine’s detailing.

foamhearts foamheartclothpins

Here is the finished product, turned out pretty cute and it cost me $4.00 to make plus I have extra hearts for more Valentine’s projects and some mini clothes pin (they are adorable.)

garlandCheck out the cricut cutting room each week for the new free cuts and have fun making new things 🙂

Super Excited about newest cricut addition!!

cricutcritters

I really wanted the create a critter 2 cartridge but after all the christmas expenses and the trip to Disney coming (SO EXCITED!!!! *said in the voice of Agnes from Despicable me*, lol) up for our one year anniversary, I couldn’t rationalize spending another $50 for a new cartridge, especially cause I haven’t really gotten to use the first ones still I am still playing in the cricut cutting room and haven’t spent all the time cutting and actually making the items, I have created.

So yesterday while looking in the cricut shop, I noticed that the cricut create a critter 2 cartridge has been set up to buy individual images, at $.99! So I bought the ones I knew I would use immediately (in fact I had created two items with the images for gifts before I owned the cartridge, lol! I post those once I have actually given them to the recipients. ) these little guys are the ones that made the cut. Very excited to use them. Wish all the images were sold separately, but this is awesome, to now own these guys 🙂

I have got so many ideas swimming in my head, can’t wait to put them into action.
