Good morning everyone, yesterday we left off after lunch with Fay, today we are going to finish our time with her, head to Pop Century and find out about the King Cupcake, make a new friend at the DVC, plus check out Disney Quest.
After lunch we walked around a little bit and caught up some more
Hubby found some pretty flowers to pose us by
From there we walked over to the Lego Store and found Buzz, Woody and RC made of Legos
Snow White and Dopey and all the woodland folk
Nessie- Glad to see it is still there 🙂
But what I had been looking forward to most was this
Prince Phillip fighting Maleficent in dragon form
So amazing, it is all Legos but the wings from what I saw
That Lego statue was just amazing, the color, the shape all of it was right on. The dragon looked perfect in Legos, kinda looked like scales. I was so happy to finally see it in person
Characters in flight in the distance behind the eternal battle
Look, I found Tink
While walking around we also saw that since it was spring break in a lot of states, they had the high school bands performing, this one was playing music from Pirates of the Caribbean when we stopped. They were from Kansas and later played Somewhere Over the Rainbow. They were great and just made me wish my high school would have given us a trip to Disney when I was in band.
Some pretty flower topiaries
We sat here and said our goodbyes to Fay, was a nice but too short visit as always.
After we said our good byes, I was a bit sad so hubby took me into the World of Disney store to cheer me up and we saw this awesome version of Cinderella’s Castle.
We went to Once Upon a Toy, had to say hi to Buzz first
Then went to Mickey’s Pantry and hopped on the bus back to our resort
We went back to the hotel and got into more comfortable Disney Clothes and headed over to Pop Century to see a guy about a cupcake 🙂
But before we head over to Pop Century, I wanted to show you this. A few days ago I was getting dressed and noticed in the bathroom in the shower, ( which is Ariel’s grotto) a few hidden Mickeys, just thought I would share
When we were heading over to Pop Century, I noticed the drop off, the words are all little fish like in Finding Nemo, it is the restroom and laundry area for the Nemo pool.
We crossed the bridge to Pop Century and headed straight for the food court.
Success! We got our King Cupcake, named for the king of course, Elvis Presley 🙂
It is a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting that is topped with candied bacon (yep, I did say candied bacon) and chocolate drizzle
And there is a banana custard inside.
Yum! I am not a big fan of peanut butter and was skeptical of the candied bacon, but this cupcake was good and huge (it is really the equivalent of two normal size cupcakes, so super easy to share!) The peanut butter taste like a Reeses pieces and the banana is that very banana flavor, it all just marries so well together. Was one of my favorite cupcakes of the trip and it was only one snack credit, score!
After our delicious cupcake we went to talk to the Cast Members and do some pin trading and they told us about their pin board coming out at 5, it was around 4:40 or so, so we decided to walk around check out the hotel some more so we could see their pin board before we headed back to our resort to check out theirs.
We found Lady
And the Tramp in the 50’s area
Then Kris got trapped in a giant game of Foos Ball
World’s biggest Mickey phone
Mr & Mrs Potato head
Rubik’s cube stairwell
The craziest Roger Rabbit I have ever seen, he is kinda scary
Pop Century is really not my cup of tea, it feels very mushed together and the theming is hodge podge at best. There is the occasional character but the buildings are surrounded with weird items from their era, like the ugly platforms and silly catch phrases in the 60’s and 70’s areas. I am sure some people really like this hotel but I will visit for the cupcakes.
After the tour we went to the pin board, sadly did not see any we needed but the board was huge.
We then went to our lobby and the pin board wasn’t out, we asked and they went to get it (in Disney if you have a question or a request, just ask, they really will try to get you what you need.) In the mean time we found, Kristy, who is a Disney Vacation Club Cast Member, we did a pin trade with her and got to talking about the DVC. We chatted for a long while, sharing stories of our love for Disney, Disney weddings (we had a Tangled themed wedding) and we decided to do the DVC tour in the morning and hear more about the club and the timeshares Disney offers (more on that in Day 6.)
Us with Kristy
After our time with Kristy we checked out some more pictures in the lobby ( and one in the ladies’ room) and headed back to Downtown Disney but this time the Westside to go to Disney Quest
Ladies’ room Ariel
Under the sea
Dancing Sea Slugs
Ariel and her sisters
Downtown Disney Westside has a movie theater, Pleasure Island, Splitsville (the new bowling alley), House of Blues, a bunch of shops, restaurants, clubs and Disney Quest.
That was where we were headed, with our Disney tickets we did park hopper with water park and more, so we could do Disney Quest every day if we had wanted to as part of our tickets.
Disney Quest Entrance
Disney Quest is a 5 floor arcade with arcade games, virtual games and others all in one place
We’re gonna Wreck it!
First stop- to play the real Wreck it Ralph game, they have one whole area that has nothing but this game
Fix it Felix Jr game
There goes Ralph doing his job
I was no good, I got a brick dropped on my head within seconds and we were off to check out more of the arcade
Ceiling by the Astro Blaster
The Astro blaster looked a lot more fun from the outside, it was like a bumper car that shot dodge balls. You ran over the balls to get them, then had to load them into the shooter and close the trap before you could shoot. Plus if you get hit in the target you spin around in a circle, unable to control your car. Once was enough on that ride.
Then we tried this human pin ball game
You stand on a platform which reminded me of a segway without wheels and you rock your body to get the pin balls to move, some of the platforms were more responsive than others and it was kinda of strange
Next up Cyber Space Mountain
You go to a station with your card and make a roller coaster to your specifications (which certain restrictions) then when you are done you get to ride it in a simulator
You can also purchase your video after. This was fun but still not a roller coaster and we have been fortunate enough to do something like this at home.
After that we rode Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride
The area is very pretty and has this motorcycle like consoles with helmets hanging above them
This is one of the virtual rides where you actually see the “reality” though goggles as you travel through the desert collecting gems
I liked this game but the helmets were heavy and bulky and did not smell to great. Also, it was neat to turn my head and see hubby as Abu.
Next up was the Virtual Jungle Cruise
You get into this inflatable boat in front of this big screen and are given paddles. Then the blue tarp underneath inflates and moves like waves and you have to paddle your way through the river.
It was pretty crazy and kinda hard to maneuver but other than that was a really neat concept.
Our favorite in the arcade however was Pirates of the Caribbean, Battle for Buccaneer Gold
You head into a glass doored room and onto part of a ship with a steering wheel and 4-6 (can’t quite remember) “cannons”. You wear 3d glasses and shoot at oncoming ships, sea monsters and skeletons trying to pillage as much gold as possible. The cannons are pretty much the same kind as in Toy Story mania and are very easy to shoot. It is really fun and very active (hold onto to your 3d glasses) if you are just a two people party like we were, running all over the boat to shoot ships.
We enjoyed this one so much that we hopped right back in line and did it again and we got the highest possible ranking, yay!
So that is are quick run through Disney Quest, you could easily spend hours in here due to how many actual arcade games there are but we were more interested in the Disney unique rides and games. It is a really neat place, I recommend checking it out at least once.
We were really proud of our high score and headed out to experience more of the Westside
House of Blues
I love the decor here, really works, seeing as it is primarily a candy apple shop, they dedicated the space to the queen of apples herself, Grimhilde, the Evil Queen from Snow White of course, in witch form.
There are apples everywhere in the decor, trellis on outside of window
Hand with apple
Grimhilde herself holding out the apple for you to taste
Potion and spell area with apples
Remember I said you would be seeing “The Organ Player” pose again, well here it is. An Organ filled with jelly beans 🙂
And my favorite was this sign, with the poison apple from Snow White
While we didn’t get an apple, we did get some snacks for later a Mickey ear mint chocolate brownie and a white chocolate chunk cookie.
Then we went into D-Street, they sell primarily Disney vinylmations and Star Wars Stuff
Big Mickey made out of vinylmations
Yoda and Kermit, I LOVE this painting!
Darth Vader and Darth Maul
We did some trading and talked Figment with some of the Cast Members and picked this guy up for our friend
Poor Yoda, he is too short to ride, but at least he has a Mickey Ice cream bar to enjoy
I was getting hungry and as we were walking through Westside, the smell of pretzels was wafting in the air.
So we stopped in Wetzels pretzels and each got a pretzel dog (one snack credit each) and ate them as we walked to the Marketplace. Yum! They were really good and very hot, took a while to cool down, but I LOVE pretzel dogs and it was totally worth a snack credit 🙂
From there we went to the Lego store to go inside, we met the Hulk and Kris got angry with him! Kris SMASH!!!
Then we ran into our friends Buzz and Woody
After our visit we saw Dumbo in the window of the World of Disney shop
Found the Enchanted Rose inside
Along with Mr Toad reeking havoc on London with Mickey and the gang trailing behind.
It was getting late and we hadn’t truly eaten and the nearest restaurant in site was Earl of Sandwich.
So we entered the restaurant and found out how their menu worked for the dining plan (sandwich, drink and $3 side item)
We got a Holiday sandwich (turkey, stuffing and cranberry,) a Montegue sandwich (turkey, ham and mustard sauce) and our drinks along with a cookie and a brownie cake.
We took them to go and got on the bus at Marketplace to enjoy our dinner in our room and settle in for the night.
I forgot to take pictures of the sandwiches, they weren’t bad but again not the best use of the dining plan (this meal was under $25 for both of us.) I did really enjoy the holiday sandwich, but I am a sucker for Turkey and things Thanksgiving related.
Here are our sweets, though.
We actually didn’t eat any of these guys until we got on the plane and the treats from Candy Cauldron held up pretty well, even in my bag all day the last day. The brownie was nice and minty and the cookie was really good, even though I don’t like white chocolate as much as hubby, the cookie texture was great. The Earl of Sandwich treats were eaten after we got home and the cake was pretty dry by then.
That is the end of Day 5, tomorrow, Day 6 will start with our tour of the Disney Vacation Club, then we will head to Animal Kingdom, go on safari and conquer Everest.
