Magnolia Pancake Haus, Movies and San Antonio Botancial Garden

Hi guys, once we finally got back into the swing of things we spent a little time on our first full weekend back with hubby’s mom and we went out to try the Magnolia Pancake Haus instead of our normal venue, Ihop 🙂

Magnolia Pancake HausMagnolia haus

Kris ordered the southwest eggs benedict, had pulled pork instead of the Canadian bacon and had bbq sauce on top of the Hollandaise sauce, it was delicious, truly. The pork was a great compliment and the mixed sauces made this dish, yum!! eggsbenedict

On the side he ordered the banana foster pancakes, plain pancakes with a  banana foster sauce. The sauce was a bit sweet for me, but hubby really enjoyed thembananafosterpancakes

My MIL ordered Magnolia Haus’ famous, Authentic Munchener Apfel Pfannekuchen and a side of bacon

It is a giant puffed apple pancake served with European style whipped cream and powdered sugar, this was really good and super rich, one bit was enough for me.

I ordered the corn beef has with over easy eggs, was delicious, really enjoyed it. The corn beef was a perfect balance of potato and corn beef and the runny eggs just made it awesome.

The corn beef also came with a side of buttermilk pancakes, they were really nice, nothing over the moon special but a nice pancake all the same.plain pancakes

I would definitely go back to the Pancake Haus, even Guy has eaten here, my only complaint was the weird seat covers in their bathrooms, lol!

And just a word of advice, get there early, this place really starts booming after 11am, wow!

After breakfast we realized there was a theater next door, so we went to see the new Evil Dead but before that we posed with the fun movie props, even though we won’t be seeing The Croods in theaters.

Hammin’ it up with the Croodscroods

Eek! This weird sloth is making a move, lol! weirdsloth

So as many of you know Evil Dead is a remake evil_dead_2013_by_myrmorko-d5j4g87

It was a Sam Raimi film and well it was so bad it became funny and also became a cult classic. This one was not funny and not a Sam Raimi film although he and Bruce Campbell did help produce the film.

It was pretty decent, it had been so long since I had seen the original I couldn’t remember what was new and what was old. But as a stand alone I enjoyed it, it was very bloody and had a good cast ( Jane Levy from Suburgatory is the main girl.)

I also liked that they changed big parts of the story ( I will refrain from adding spoilers.) My BIG complaint is previews, I know most people enjoy previews and I used to be one of them, but nowadays they ruin movies and shows alike. They gave away so much of the movie that some of the big parts, we already knew.

This is not the first time either, they ruined Quarantine and even the last episode of Dexter season 6 (I still want to write Showtime and give them a piece of my mind, lol.)

So if you haven’t seen any trailers, remember this is not the original Evil Dead and enjoy a good horror movie, check it out, I am sure you will enjoy it.

After the movie we left Kris’ mom and went to the San Antonio Botanical garden since I had never gone and it was a pretty spring day.

Map for the Botanical Garden

The garden is pretty large took us a few hours to do and even on a day in early April got pretty hot in the afternoon, I would recommend doing the garden in very early spring or very early in the day.

That was our day at the Botanical garden, it was really pretty and had alot to look at. Definitely a nice place to take pictures for spring with your family. If you have a chance before it gets too warm check it out, they even do night-time movies in the garden through out the year.

So that was our first full weekend back home, pretty fun-filled. Hope you enjoyed checking it out.

First Day Home and off to Spamalot!

Good morning everyone, I hope you enjoyed the trip report, our anniversary post today, and my sneak peek for Friday, today we are going to start going into what we have been up to since we got back from Disney.

The next day after our trip, we had tickets to go see Spamalot, it was a ton of fun. I was raised on Monty Python and had got the opportunity to see Spamalot in Austin a long time ago and sat in the nosebleed seats. My hubby being as awesome as he is got us orchestra seats in my favorite Theater, the Majestic here in San Antonio.

The Majestic Theater (looks like it belongs in Disney World.)

Majestictheater tumblr_m7hdvsVhby1rzy2z7o1_1280

Spamalot is a musical created from pieces of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, created by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame (also played Dr. Nigel Channing in Journey into Imagination with Figment at Epcot!)

Spamalot previewed on Broadway, at New York’s Shubert Theatre, beginning 14 February 2005, and, after some changes, officially opened on 17 March 2005 (whoo hoo, St Patrick’s day.)  The show won the Tony Award for Best Musical and was nominated for 14 Tony Awards. The musical played its final performance on 11 January 2009 after 35 previews and 1,574 performances; it was seen by more than two million people and grossed over $175 million. Now the production is touring the country for its third national tour.

In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python created a mock Arthurian history and Spamalot is pretty much that story. King Arthur recruiting knights to aid him in his quest to find the holy grail, even the lady of the lake joins in the quest. Many classic Monty Python jokes are included and are even more fun on stage, like the Black Knight and the white rabbit with HUGE pointy teeth 🙂

monty_python_rabbitMy white rabbit 🙂

Truly, this musical is a great time for anyone who loves Monty Python, British humor or just plain silliness.

I am very happy we got to go and I got to share it with my husband. I hope you have a chance to check it out when it is near your town, it really is a lot of fun. You will probably never laugh this hard at any other musical 🙂

Sneak Peek at a Friday Disney Event

Happy Friday guys, I decided since it is Friday, I would share a sneak peek of something happening on a Friday at  Disney in the not so distant future.

September 13, 2013 to be exact, it  happens to be a Friday the 13th and this means good news for us, the Disney Villain fans.

This Friday in September will bring the Reflections of Evil Trading Event.

This is how the Disney Blog tells the Story

“In a far away land there lived a wicked and vain Queen who wanted more power. While pouring over ancient spell books, she discovered an incantation that, when performed on the darkest of days – Friday the 13th – could bring together thirteen of the most evil Disney villains known only as “The 13.” To cast this spell, the Queen must use a powerful, supernatural object – a magic mirror – to transport “The 13” from across time to the present day. As luck would have it, Friday the 13th will take place in September this year! The Queen decided this would be the perfect day to cast the spell.

Let’s fast forward to September. As the newly assembled Villains are hashing out their nefarious plans, the Villains intentionally break the mirror and hide the thirteen shards. Now the mirror can never be used against them, as it is the only object that can send them home. Lucky for us, an imaginative purple dragon named Figment overheard their plotting and asks Mickey Mouse for help. Along with five of their trusted friends known as the “Lucky 7,” Mickey Mouse and Figment devise a plan to stop “The 13.” They must reassemble the broken shards to send the villains back to their rightful places in time.”

This will be a huge battle and not only does it have the big 13 villains, but they included Figment, super exciting. Of course, with Disney, a huge battle means huge merchandising 🙂

Here is a peek at some of the items they will be offering.

One Year Anniversary Tradition- Top Tier of Wedding Cake

Hi guys, as you know we just got back from our amazing Disney Anniversary trip and I mentioned that I ordered us a special cake at Disney since we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our top tier until after we got back.  So here is the post about saving and eating the top tier for our wedding cake for our one year anniversary.

The  tradition is to have the top layer of the cake made out of fruit cake (which apparently holds up forever). This layer is saved and frozen for the bride and groom to eat on their first anniversary for good luck.

So yep, we saved the cake top (wrapped in plastic wrap, then foil and boxed) and thawed it in the fridge. But I have to say I wish we had just eaten it when we got home from the honeymoon, when the cake still had a chance of being delicious and only had the I ordered cake at Disney for our anniversary.

I do have to say the cake outside still looked great

Here is the wedding cake, St Patrick’s day 2012, day of the wedding and the Pascal Groom’s cake

232323232%7Ffp635;2)nu=34(4)3(6)397)25;53(648825 ot1lsi 232323232%7Ffp73442)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=34(444827;34;nu0mrj

Here is the top tier one year later

232323232%7Ffp543;3)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=36438296 534;nu0mrj

Looks pretty good, right!?!

We were pretty hopeful at this point and did the ceremonial husband and wife cut the cake together 232323232%7Ffp73478)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=36438296;234;nu0mrj

Even the inside of the cake, doesn’t look too bad232323232%7Ffp543 4)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=36438296;434;nu0mrj

And the very cautious taste232323232%7Ffp54433)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=3643848 (234;nu0mrj

Blah! Just imagine the Beverly face here, ok, it wasn’t that bad but I think no matter what you do cake just isn’t meant to keep that long.

The ice crystals invaded the cake leaving it hard and soggy at the same time, just not appetizing.

We can say we did it and we got our good luck but I think we would have been happier gorging on it post honeymoon then the gross nibble one year later.

All I can say is it is up to you whether you participate in the top tier tradition, some people do it out of superstition or tradition and some people can’t do it due to wedding location or cake cost and just order an anniversary cake for their first year.  It is your wedding and completely your call.

To us it was another funny experience we got to share with each other and another memory for us to enjoy. I am glad we did it.

Just remember if you are trying to decide to keep your cake for a year, it may not hold, so maybe just save a piece to share versus a whole tier or just  order a new cake maybe with the wedding theme as part of your anniversary festivities, since all we could manage was the one bite 🙂

Breakfast was great, definitely the place to get your kids excited about a day in the parks, it is very loud and upbeat and alot is going on.

Once we were done and got our photopass+ package we headed back upstairs to catch the monorail to the Magic Kingdom the last time this trip.

Lunch was delicious, some people didn’t give it high reviews, but I was pleasantly pleased and happy we gave it a shot. When you are at Disney give it a go.

After lunch, we went to grab some snacks for the trip home and I picked up this cup I had had my eye on the whole trip

It is so neat because it looks like the original cups when the park opened but it is ceramic and has a silicone lid and nice plastic straw, I love it (drinking out of it as I type this.)

It was then time to wave good bye for now to our beloved Magic Kingdom and head back to the hotel to check the Magical Express to the airport232323232%7Ffp54373)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=3645;7629934;nu0mrj

Then we were off, headed back to Texas. We watched Rio on the way home and got back around 11 or so. One of my bags went to St Louis instead on home, but they found it and we came to get it next morning. They gave us a $50 voucher for the inconvenience, which will be great for our next trip (After Paris) 🙂

So there you have it guys, our 8 magical days at Disney for our Anniversary.

I hope you enjoyed reliving the trip with me. Tomorrow we will start the posts of what has been going on since we have been home, starting with Spamalot and the top tier of our wedding cake.

See you real soon 🙂

Disney Anniversary Trip – Day 7- Epcot, Pick A Pearl in Japan, Passport signing, Easter Egg Hunts and The Coral Reef Restaurant

Good morning everyone, today will finish off day 7 of our Disney anniversary trip and it is a great finish to the day for sure.  We will start off in Japan and check out the pick a pearl, then make our way across the World Showcase getting our passport stamped and hunting Easter eggs for the Vinylmation Egg east hunt , then end the day with a romantic dinner under the sea at the Coral Reef Restaurant.

Now off to Japan

232323232%7Ffp543(9)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(3;84534;nu0mrj 232323232%7Ffp5438;)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(3;48434;nu0mrj

We walked into Japan not knowing how big this pavilion is, it was very impressive how much stuff is going on here.

About Kidcot, Kidcot is Epcot’s area in each country where kids can learn more about the country and color a Duffy (Disney’s new teddy bear mascot)  dressed like the country and get their passports stamped and written in, be on the lookout for these. They are free and fun souvenirs for the kids or adults, we made our passport as seen in previous posts here.

We love Naruto, so to see this in the popular stuff from Japan was really neat.

We headed deeper into the store after I admired some sake cups and tea kettles and found the Pick a Pearl Area.

I had read about this place and it being a unique Disney gift, so I wanted to try it.

You buy your pearl first ($17.99) and they give you a number card, when our number was up, it was our turn to pick our pearl. Hubby and I picked an ugly kinda hairy one, since that was what I was told to do to better the chance of getting two pearls (not sure if it is true or not.)

Then the cast member, who was super friendly and very bubbly, taught us how to count down from three in Japanese, 1 (ichi). 2 (ni). 3 (san) and then see opened our shell.

On a side note, you can get them set for more into a setting there, but I found this awesome place on etsy and got a Cinderella coach pearl cage for $6 and my pearl looks gorgeous in it.

After the pick a pearl, the put it in a baggie for us and we went to check out the rest of Japan.

All the reviews of this pastry were dead on, it is delicious, it is a light pastry coated in icing and toasted coconut and filled with vanilla custard, it was so good, was almost sad to rush ourselves to finish it to ride the Maelstrom. You should definitely give it a go.

The Maelstrom is another one of those rides that is kinda confusing, it is dark and there are trolls and you almost go backwards but don’t. Was a ride, I figured Kris should experience once, but I was floored they have fast pass for it, never seemed too popular. In fact Kris was almost inside the ride by the time I got our schoolbread, so he got out and got back in. Then we were offered a fast pass and shoved our schoolbread (no, I don’t think it went up my nose this time and if it did there is no proof, lol!)  in our face to run inside.

The crab cakes were good and the mango salsa was nice but the tostadas were kinda bland and hard to eat (one bite and they fell apart.)

For our entrees I ordered the Lobster Orecchiette, I had been waiting for since I booked the reservation and saw the menu and it was so worth the wait. 232323232%7Ffp734 6)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(2973534;nu0mrj

It had a fun crisp on top and chocolate caviar, both were good but contained alcohol so we only had a bit of them.

Dinner was great and the atmosphere was wonderful, we even chatted with our table neighbors who had just got married that Saturday. I am never disappointed with the Coral Reef and was happy to share it with my prince.

After dinner it seemed like the rain was coming back so we decided to get some pictures because the rain started with our photopass+ and then head back to the hotel for the night.

Day 7 was really one of my favorite of the trip, I had everything, characters, rides, food, flowers and different cultures. It was a perfect day, even with the rain.

Tomorrow is day 8, last day of the trip, off to Magic Kingdom for one last hurrah! See you here tomorrow to finish off the trip report. 🙂

Disney Anniversary Trip- Day 7- Epcot, Meet and Greet with the Princesses at Akerhus, rides and lunch with Remi in France

Happy Monday everyone, sorry I am running a bit behind this morning. The good news is I have a ton to share with you from  day 7 of our anniversary trip.

When we woke up the sun was just rising (it was early because I scheduled a breakfast at Epcot at 8:15, I know what was I thinking?!) and it was a beautiful view from the 4th floor of Triton as we waited for the elevator.

Sun Rise

Then not only did we notice the sunrise but we saw all these hot air balloons.

There were between 6-10 balloons out that morning and it was really amazing to see.

Akerhus is another character dining experience, this one is princesses and they vary. Like Ohana and 1900 Park Fare, you check in and do a photo (again this one can be purchased or added to your photopass+), this one is with a princess and we got Belle that morningbelle1

This is a more European breakfast, the bring you a platter with eggs, bacon and sausage and there is a buffet or pastries, smoked fish, meat, and other more Mediterranean fare (I suppose this is what our buffet will be like in Paris.)

We like Soarin’ but definitely will not wait more than 30 mins to ride it and to us if you aren’t in the front, the ride is pretty much ruined by feet.

We also like the safety video from Patrick Warburton, however, when it comes to the ride itself I wish they had a Florida and California version. I don’t like that Soarin’ and Muppets only have videos for Disneyland, especially when you are at Disney World.

The video is also getting old and we were soaring with dust particles half the ride, at first we thought it was a little plane or a hang glider, but no, it was dust 🙂

After the ride we saw this little shop and they had these neat little gardens, so we got one for Hubby’s mom since she had been watching little man while we were on vacation

Mickey’s mini gardens

Then we rode Living with the Land, which is one of my favorites

I find living with the land very soothing and really neat that Epcot grows some of the food you actually eat in the park. I also like learning while having fun, so living with the land is still high on my list even though there were no Cinderella pumpkins when we rode.

From there we headed to Nemo and Friends to check it out

I didn’t take any pictures during the ride, was busy comparing this one to Disneyland and of course the most obvious difference is you are already under the sea in a clam mobile no big trip under the sea in a submarine.

It is cute but the story seems a little confusing, is this during the movie or after, not too sure. But I do like their use of the aquarium at the end (projecting the animated images into the real aquarium)  and Pearl, she is pretty funny.

After the ride we checked out the animals in the sea

After we rode, we got our first stamp on our passport and an cute thing for our anniversary in Spanish. This was a lot of fun and seeing as we live in Texas, it was the only one I would be able to read the whole trip.

I do wish the passport stamps were different and had someone other than Duffy, but I guess they had to put him somewhere. Copy of DSC01932

We made our way over to France and checked in a we were seated in the side area, it was very pretty and one thing I love about Epcot is that the staff from each country, usually is from that country, everyone we encountered in France was in fact French. Pretty neat!

I was so excited about how much fun we were having this day, that I had almost forgot why I booked this meal to begin with, Remi!!

He was so cute, he had a handler (some one to push his cheese cart) named Armando and he was a trip. The woman next to us asked to see the mouse and he questioned her about whether she was a health inspector. He said he was a rat and asked her if she knew the difference and gave her a hard time that she must be a health inspector since she didn’t know Remi’s name. Was a cute little performance, made me giggle. Remi also moves and squeaks and interacts with Armando.

It was the highlight to our lunch, so glad I booked it

For appetizers I got the Casserole of Burgundian escargots baked in parsley and garlic butter, they were fantastic and the broth they left were great for the bagette232323232%7Ffp54368)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(25;7834;nu0mrj

Hubby got Daily assortment of fresh sorbets and a madeleine. I believe they were raspberry, mango and pineapple and there was fresh fruit as well. The mango was kinda too tart for me, but was nice and refreshing. 232323232%7Ffp734 6)nu=965;);59)25 )WSNRCG=363;(25;8234;nu0mrj

Disney Anniversary Trip Report- Day 6- Downtown Disney, Characters in Flight, 1900 Park Fare & Grand Floridian Easter Egg Display

Good morning everyone, today we will finish up day 6. From the Animal Kingdom we hopped on the bus to our hotel then got on one there to go to Downtown Disney. We got off at the Marketplace and went to visit Kristy at the DVC beside customer service in the Marketplace. We also did some pins trading and checked out a few stores while waiting to talk with Kristy.

We found this fascinator, thought it was so cute.

232323232%7Ffp73479)nu=3642)4(3)293)27334(338425 ot1lsi

Before we left for the trip, I had written about buying tickets on Groupon for the Characters in Flight (for more info about Characters in flight, read my first post  here) and we wanted to get to ride it but at that moment it was docked. However after chatting with Kristy we noticed that they put the balloon back in the air, so we hurried over to ride it before our 7:30 reservation at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian.

On the way there, we saw this neat street performer

We were up about 300 ft (instead of the full 400) and there were only 9 of us on board (which is a 1/3 of the balloons capacity) due to the winds, but it was a really cool view and something neat to share with the whole family, I recommend checking it out when you have some free time downtown.

When we were down we realized we were closer to the Westside bus stop than the Market place so we got to the bus stop and picked the first bus heading towards the Grand Floridian, it was the Contemporary bus, so we took it, then got the monorail at the Contemporary to the Grand Floridian.

Anastasia was trip, Kris was telling her about our anniversary and she told us to show Drizella my engagement ring, because she would be so jealous (since it is green, which is her favorite.)

After that Cinderella came by and she was really full on Cinderella, she was very sweet and was so happy that I had found my prince like she had (reminded me of Giselle  in Enchanted.)

Then Drizella came over, she was our favorite, she asked if we had had Cinderella clean for us. Kris told her no, that we were taking it easy on her. She responded, “Why, that is why we invited her, to clean. That is why she is wearing gloves!” Lol

After that we showed her my rings and she was just overwhelmed with them and very jealous, she was too fun.
